So you’re heading over to Dunkin’ and you’re wondering if you should order the Dunkin’ Midnight coffee or stick with Original. Here’s what you need to know to help decide.
If you like dark, bold coffee with a very strong taste, you’ll like the Midnight better. If you prefer regular, medium roast types of coffees, stick with the Original blend.

I personally prefer a medium roast coffee, and all those traditional coffee notes. So for me, the Dunkin’ Midnight was too bold and tasted too strong and dark.
However, I’ll say that even as someone who doesn’t prefer dark coffees, I found the Dunkin’ Midnight to be still perfectly drinkable and not bitter. Just very strong and bold.
If I went to Dunkin’ and they only had the Midnight ready to serve, I’d accept it. I’d probably just add creamer to tame it a little bit, as this is how I usually drink a dark roast. For the purposes of this taste test, I was drinking it black and unsweetened so that I could only concentrate on the actual coffee and not be swayed by other flavors.
If you’re into dark coffee, I think you will like the Dunkin’ Midnight. It is going to give you that strong, bold flavor that you’re looking for.
There’s no significant caffeine difference between a Dunkin’ Original and a Dunkin’ Midnight, so it’s not going to be stronger in the sense of waking you up better.
But if you want to make the Midnight even stronger as far as both flavor and caffeine, you just ask them to Add a Shot. They’ll add a shot of espresso into the coffee, so it’s the equivalent of the caffeine of maybe 1 1/2 cups of drip coffee in just that one small cup.
The pricing for a Dunkin’ Midnight coffee in Texas in 2023 is:
$2.49 for a small ($3.88 if you Add a Shot of espresso)
$2.79 for a medium ($4.18 with a shot)
$3.09 for a large ($4.48 with a shot)
$3.39 for an extra large ($4.78 with a shot)
