My Taste Test of Allegro Coffee Mocha Java Medium Roast

by Nigel Ong

Mocha Java is a rather unique, if not historical blend. First popularized in the 17th century, the Dutch blended coffee beans from Java and Mocha to create it.

The blend has been popular ever since for its unique taste worldwide. Many roasters, including Allegro, offer their own take on the Mocha Java blend.

How would Allegro’s Mocha Java roast fare? I picked up a bag to find out. I will brew the coffee three ways before comparing it against other relevant roasts I have in my collection.

Taste Testing Green Mountain Nantucket Blend Medium Roast Coffee: Review

by Nigel Ong

Medium roasts are what’s considered as ‘safe’ coffee. They usually have that stronger, more coffee-like flavors that most coffee drinkers come to appreciate, with flavor notes playing second fiddle.

As a result, many coffee drinkers drink them as a daily go-to. It is strong enough to perk you up in the morning and beat the afternoon slump but still soft enough not to deliver a knockout blow on the palate.

Will the Green Mountain Nantucket Blend deliver the same experience? I picked up a bag to find out. I will brew the coffee three ways before sampling and comparing it with other light roasts in my collection.

I Tasted Tim Hortons French Vanilla Medium Coffee: Review

by Nigel Ong

I am not a fan of flavored coffee, as roasters generally take low-quality coffee beans, flavor them, and then roast them up. The additional flavoring usually masks the lower-quality coffee.

However, after enjoying the Old Town Hazelnut White Coffee, I thought I’d go ahead and try more flavored coffee, too. Next up is the Tim Hortons’ vanilla coffee.

In this review, I will sample the Tim Hortons French Vanilla Coffee. I’ll brew the coffee several ways and then sample it. I’ll also compare the roast with relevant coffees to see if you should try it.

I Tasted Cameron’s Donut Shop Medium Roast Coffee: Review

by Nigel Ong

Donut shop blend coffees are tasty and enjoyable to me. They are usually light or medium roasts, blended to work well with sweet baked foodstuffs, such as donuts. The key is keeping a traditional, all-American roast for that comfortable, easy-to-sip experience.

I could not resist picking it up when I saw Cameron’s Donut Shop Blend. I expect a smooth, easy-going coffee that opens up my appetite for some good old donuts.

Will the coffee perform well or disappoint? Let’s find out in this review. I will brew the coffee three ways and then compare its taste with other relevant brews.

My Taste Test Community Coffee New Orleans Roast Blend Coffee

One of my favorite medium roasts is the Community Coffee American Roast. Comfortable, smooth, and easy to drink at a good price. This also made me keen to look at Community Coffee’s other roasts.

As a result, I snapped up a few bags of Community Coffee’s roasts in the range and tried them out. This time, it’s the New Orleans Dark Roast.

As usual, I will brew the coffee several ways and sample it. I then compare the coffee with other relevant roasts before deciding who should give this coffee a try.

My Taste Test of Kicking Horse 454 Horse Power Organic Dark Roast Coffee Beans

By Nigel Ong

Coffee roasters like to give their roasts fancy names to invoke some emotional response in their drinkers. Perhaps this explains why Kicking Horse calls one of their roasts ‘454 Horsepower’.

The question is, will the coffee really be able to perk you up and add more ‘horsepower’ to you? I picked up a bag to find out.

I will sample and review the Kicking Horse 454 Horsepower Dark Roast in this post. I will try it as French press, pour-over, and espresso before comparing it with other relevant coffee in my collection.

I can be pretty sure what I want with my coffee. I like my coffee light or medium, with chocolate and nutty flavors. However, occasionally, I try something new, hoping to discover flavors that may interest me.

It is with this interest that I picked up a bag of Puroast French Roast Decaf Coffee. Would it beat my favorite decaf dark roast so far, The Major Dickason Decaf? Let’s see.

In this post, I will sample the coffee black and with other flavorings as well before comparing it against popular dark roasts.
